Dundee last visited Glebe Park on cup duty two seasons ago when the home side pulled off a shock by taking a two goal lead, both of them scored by Rory McAllister. Leigh Griffiths struck twice to level and missed a last minute penalty which would have put the Dark Blues through.
There was no further score in extra time and the Glebe Parkers won the penalty shoot out to progress to the next round.
Current Dens boss Barry Smith was a rock at the heart of the City defence that evening and this will be his first competitive return to Glebe Park, though he did take a side there for a 2-1 friendly win last September, Neil McGregor and Craig McKeown scoring Dundee's goals that evening.
