Today's Courier says John Gibson may be going on loan to Elgin. Does this mean we have signed him again then?

| Got to assume that it does, can't see how we could loan him to anyone of he wasn't our player. The obvious question now is who will provide backup up to Robert on match days? I guess you could gamble and not have a goalie on the bench but with the standard of refereeing in this country I don't know if that's a chance I'd like to take. |

| There was talk of Derek Soutar leaving Formartine for either Montrose or Tayport Juniors. As he runs a coaching school in Dundee perhaps Barry has him in mind for next season. |

You've got to be kidding, why do you think he's playing at that level just now. |

Maybe he was on a longer contract so wouldn't have to re-sign? |

Goalkeepers are ten a penny just now and a goalkeeper does not suddenly become a bad goalkeeper. It depends whether he has a good defence in front of him. Ronnie Simpson was a good goalkeeper but not a brilliant one. However when he played for Celtic he looked a great goalkeeper because thanks to the Celtic defence in front of him he had little to do. |

Formartine were paying out good money, that's why they were able to attract decent pros.As well as Soutar they also previously had Jamie Winter and Phil McGuire on their books.Current ex SPL players include,Bobby Mann and former Aberdeen pair Andrew Bagshaw and Neil McVittie.Former Man Utd youth and Scotland U21 cap is also part of their squad.Money talks. |

Going by some of the topics and posts I think some would not be happy with his choice or choices! ;-) |

| We need to give one of the younger keepers like Cavanagh a shot. And I hope he forces his way into the first team. It's about time we youthed up the team. We won't get anywhere playing 30+ year olds. Take a leaf out of the Arabs book, player youths , give them time and they will come good. |

All for giving players time but if it takes 2 years or so will the fans remain patient? A sample of the posters on here would suggest not! |

Danny Paton-Cavannagh isn't with the club anymore - he went back to Canada several months ago - nice lad and a promising young keeper but he got very home sick.
The Danny Cavannagh who is still with the club is a midfielder/striker |

Whenever young players have been given games in the team the fans have mostly been very supportive of them. Of course if they can't hack it they shouldn't stay in the team.

I'd rather have a good player the wrong side of 30 than a 21-year-old who just doesn't have it.
The last time we had a team packed full of kids it was under Kernaghan. Robertson, Dixon and McDonald might have done well for themselves, but the majority failed to cut it at this level.
The same goes for United. For every Goodwillie or Russell there are five or six who disappear from the game.
A mix of youth and experience is essential to any succesful team. |
