My buddy is struggling to explain just what the Dees mean to him to his wife. She clearly gets the fact its a club and he likes to go to the games "occasionally", but she doesn`t get IT.
Any advice out there ?

Think the Shankly quote is the best one, life and death etc.

Tell her they are what makes him tick. Without the Dees we would all be bereft and with nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon apart from going shopping with her (best not to tell her that bit though eehh??)

I use the shankly quote“somebody says to him footballs a matter of life and death".shanks replies no? It's more important than that.

If your spouse supports another club (mines a Saintee) then it improves the banter in the house. One thing however is sacrosant - the kids must be Dee fans *(both mine are) Any other outcome and you have failed as a parent!

My ex girlfriend used to say to me... "You love Dundee FC more than you love me" to which I replied "Yer right. But then again, I even love United more than I love you!"

I'm here all week....

You`re not really helping chaps, he has only been married for a short time and he needs to get his football needs bedded in, quickly.

You're all missing the point - you don't have to justify your football team to anyone !

You do however have to justify your time, mood, expense, children indoctrination, hatred for all things tangerine etc

Ask her why she watches rubbish on the TV and tell her to give up Coronation St. (for example) if she says no cos thats her thing and how dare you dictate to her what she can and can't do, you can then show her a very good example of how you feel about your team. Simples

I took my new partner to the Derby... She had never been to a football match before.
Some of the comments she made during the game were cute and naive but some were also rather insightful!

But it was not until after the game that she said two things which I couldn't help smile at.
She said;
1) "You know... I lived on Tannadice Street a long time ago, so always thought I 'liked' the DAB5 (her words)... But after actually 'seeing' them... They weren't playing football! They were diving and fouling and I certainly don't like them! It's good to support a 'real' playing team!"

2) "I always thought men being all into football was just silly... But I think I get it now!"

(There then followed a lengthy discussion about possibilities of season tickets etc etc..!!!)

So, in essence you don't explain Dundee... you EXPERIENCE them!

I will pass that on to him and if you leave your contact details I will ask his wife to call and discuss further.
