| I just read that St Mirren have thrashed Celtic 4-0. Could it be that Tony Mowbray will be sacked? I wouldn't be surprised. It reminds me of the day Dundee battered the Bhoys at Dens, a result that saw Davie Hay sacked. Does anyone recall this game and who scored that day? I was only a kid at the time but it was a memorable scoreline. |

hi Paul I remember humping Celtic 5 - 1 that was a great game a very surreal feeling that day if I remember rightly it was 5- 1 with nearly 20 mins still left to play.
The video is on you tube . peter Mackie scored the last goal, reminds me of a story around that time I was at Chic MacLellans house at new year [ my mate stayed next door ], and me and and another forum poster Tayportdee used new year to pop into his house as we knew a few of the team were going to be there , I had maybe a little too much to drink and knocked over the party susan for those of a younger age group this was a favourite Tupperware dish at the time , if you don't know what Tupperware is google it , anyway the dish was full of pickled onions and cheese and ham on a stick , I sat down on the sofa "oot the road" and was sitting to this gorgeous blonde and we got chatting , she asked if I supported the dee and she was asking about my favourite players and the like and I went on to tell her about all the players and then I mentioned Peter Mackie describing him as a poser who I thought always carried a mirror and comb in his shorts to comb his golden locks during the match and if he got his shorts dirty he would stop the play to swap them for a clean pair, Mrs Mackie went on to chat to others after that.
It was a great night though

There's two games here. 30 years ago, we beat Celtic 5-1 after going a goal down, but led 3-1 at half-time. It revived our hopes of beating the drop, then Kilmarnock went and won two midweek games, yes two, so we were relegated before we got the chance to play another game. In 1987, we beat Celtic 4-1 at Dens after trailing 1-0 at half-time. Jocky tried some super-duper new formation to turn the game and it worked wonders. Oh yes, I missed both games...

I remember the first game at the TC Keay end Aitken scored I turned my head up to the clock 6 minutes played I cant repeat what I said. Can't believe its 30 years! Great goals but the clip on You tube misses out the penalty save of donaldson better that a 6th goal we had been chanting for. On the way home I passed Celtic fans crying --oh a joyous day:))) The second one I was at too I think:( did John Brown not score one of his great free kicks I'm pretty sure he left for Rangers soon after. |

| I clearly remember the 5-1. Bearing in mind some of the humpings we'd had from Celtic that game remains in my top 10 favourites :) |

| The Buddies win last night is the largest League defeat inflicted on Celtic for 30 years by any team other than Rangers. The 5-1 win at Dens, therfore, remains the standard by which the others are judged! |

The 5-1 game was remarkable and we all waited for Rangers to do us a favour the following Wednesday against Killie and also the night of my 21st!
And true to form Rangers got beat, G.Smith missed a few sitters against his former club, DFC got relegated and the next day Tommy Gemmell resigned. Me? I went on a two day smoker- student then of course, halcyon days indeed!!! |

| I remember the 5-1 well.Arrived a bit late and missed their goal.Ian Fergusson starred for us.I think he scored from a penalty and got at least I other. The match was notable for the most ridiculous segregation arrangements ever.Dundee had the TCKeay end and the east part of S.Encl with Celtic fans in west of SE and Provvie Rd End.At full timeboth sets of fans were able to leave by the(now closed)stairs at SW cornr on Dens Road. With the congestion at the top we were able to witness some Celtic supporters honing their bottle-throwing skills by throwing bottles(some part full) from the top down among the throng on Dens Road. How no-one was killed or injured was either due to luck or particularly good aim with the bottles crashing down between groups of people on the road below. It was after all their own fans mainly who were already down there.Terrifying and time to hide the Dundee scarf under the jacket. After the match the Celtic manager,Billy McNeil stated the only good thing about the match was their fans.He obviously unaware of the mayhem in Dens Road.Unbelievable that we were relegated the same season with a series of freak results by the other teams. We went down on goal diff being level on points with Aberdeen and United. And so was inflicted the most damaging event from which we have never really recovered. |

Different season - we were relegated before playing another game after the win over Celtic (that was 1979-80) - the year we finished level with United and the Dons and went down was 1975-76 |

| The 5-1 against the Celtic game; I recall and could be wrong memory fading due to auld age and alcohol damage in my youth as you do. Was this game not called off twice before being played. I remember getting the train from Aberdeen and working our way up the Hilltoon pubs getting to Dens around 2.45pm "Game aff", the next time got off the train and a sign at the station "game aff" and of course missed the actual game when it was played. Nae Luck maybe it will all turn around by the end of this season, I pray. |

| I was at the 4-1 game and Dundee played them off the park 1st half and went in 1-0 down due to Brian McClair free-kick. We came out the second with 5 in midfield and 3 at the back I think and blew them away. Even Mince Vince played out his skin!!!! |

| The 4-1 game was played on the Saturday following the 1st replay against Meadowbank away in the Scottish Cup, a truly awful game. The game on the Saturday was Vince Mennie's finest hour. |

The 5-1 game was on a beautiful, sunny Saturday ,19/4/80 yet were still relegated after some dodgy results in other games. Celtic lost the league basically due to this result. It was one of the finest moments of being a Dundee fan I can remember. Celtic were arrogant and went ahead 1-0 then we ripped them apart with two from Ian Ferguson and one from Ian Fleming before half time. Eric Sinclair and Peter Mackie finished the rout before Celtic then missed a penalty. The 4-1 game was on the 28/2/87 and once again Celtic were 1-0 ahead this time keeping the lead at half time. A few changes by Jocky and Celtic couldn't cope with a mercurial Mennie starting the goal rush, followed by a cracker by Rab Shannon with John Brown and Ross Jack finishing. These are the days we live for as Dundee fans. Unlike the glory hunters of the Old Firm fans, we appreciate the wins more. |

We also waited on a Rangers win - at home to Utd in 1976 as champions. The draw sent us down instead of them and started all our troubles. I still remember well listening to that fateful game on the radio. |

| Did united not win that match 1-0 with McAlpine scoring from the spot. A draw and we would have stayed up. |
