Interesting article in The Scotsman this morning - particularly with respect to the numbers quoted. Without joining the dots, you can see why there's very little chance of the league going up in size and clubs volunteering to splitting that TV pie four or more extra ways. And why should they? Pretty tasty slice from Setanta - which they're presumably confident of recouping ultimately - and a lot more than I thought clubs were getting.

Also intrigued that there is a SECOND YEAR parachute payment, which Dundee presumably got this season. Can't recall hearing about that before.

But you can see what relegation and not going straight back (with the parachute payment, they can probably cope with one season down) takes out of a club in financial terms, and possibly why the gap appears to be growing between the top two divisions.

It looks like St Mirren for the drop now (Dunfermline are flippin' anointed) having seen the two play on Monday. Gus MacPherson made an interesting observation - that the gap between SPL and First over the whole season (as opposed to a few one-off Cup games) IS wider. That seems fair comment, as Saints ran away with the second section last season, and have struggled to maintain a good start in the SPL.

Looks like the pars are down. St Mirren 3-2 up, and pars 2-1 down to ICT. Still think we have a good chance of winning the league next year.

Of course we have a great chance. Apart from Hibs, I can't remember the last time a team came straight back up after being relegated. We've struggled, Livi have struggled and St Johnstone have struggled. It'll be hard for Dunfermline, but we can't worry about who is in the league and who isn't. We need to concentrate on making a good start, and take it from there. We should all do whatever we can to get the club where it deserves, and where WE deserve, to be.

I doubt it with teams like Morton , Dunfermline , St Johnstone , Livinston and Stirling Albion we could come at least fifth!

Not best pleased that Dunfermline came down. I've seen them play four times this season - against Rangers, Hibs, St Mirren and Motherwell - and they've won the lot, and look like a team on the up rather than the other way.

Stephen Kenny has turned things round, and I'd have fancied them for a top-six finish next season in the SPL, let alone being promoted.

There's a lot of experience in their ranks, and they look physically equipped to handle the more-rigorous demands of the second section.

Irrespective of what happens in the Cup Final, they're actually on as much as a high - results and performance-wise - as a relegated side can be, and are likely to be bookies' favourites to bounce back.

However, none of the last three relegated sides have even finished in the top half, so that stat has to be respected. But compare the five strikers on their books - Burchill, Crawford, Hamilton, McIntyre and McManus. Any of those would walk into Dundee's first team - any first team in this section - yet one doesn't even make the Dunfermline 16.

What we're hoping (against hope) for is that Alex Rae finds three or four experienced players of better quality than those we have, while the Pars make cost cutbacks and lose three or four of their first teamers. The latter is likely, the former more problematical.

It all depends if they can keep hold of the players they have, I agree thou they are a very good team, and its gonna be a very hard league with ourselfs and the Saints and Dunfermline pushing for the SPL, plus a couple of others lets hope that Alex gets his men, and the men want out of the 1st Div.
