Fouad Bachirou from Morton would be a definate one to look at for me, everytime I seen him this year I thought he was the best player on the park. Another would be Willie Gibson from Falkirk, he is a very direct player which we need.

Does anyone have any left backs or central defenders in mind??

I am just catching up on reading this weeks papers and i see in the Courier from the other day that we are rumoured to be in for Declan Gallacher who is currently with Clyde.

He spent his youth career at Celtic but was released and moved to Clyde.

See we're being linked with centre-half John Potter in todays Courier.

I doubt we could afford him but given that he was arrested again last week for a fracas at a night club I really don't think we should touch him with a barge pole, even if we could afford him.

I never knew he was in trouble again. Yeh probably better staying clear he is a bit of a dafty! Sure Barry knows what hes doing but we definitely need a 20+ goals a season man whoever it may be.

Riordan is a great player but too much off-the-field antics.

I fear that type of ex-SPL player may be way out of our price range too.

I have seen a reasonable amount of SFL football (not involving the Dees) this season and we may need to drop a division to find players we can afford.

Rory McAllister would be a great signing but not sure he would move to Dens with his academic/apprenticeship commitments. Andy Rodgers has had a great season at Stenny. Michael McGowan (Ayr) has always impressed me, bit of dig about him and decent wide midfielder or left full-back.

Would love to have Carl Finnigan back and Saints seem set for a clearout so he may be an option. Jordan Morton and Marc McKenzie look like good prospects at Cowdenbeath and Ryan Wallace has been scroing for fun at East Fife.

One thing you can be certain of, Barry Smith has been tirelessly taking in games and looking at potential targets. I have seen him on three or four occasions at lower division games this past season when we haven't had a game.

If Riordan comes; who funds the extra night club bouncers?

I see that we are being linked with Darren Mackie again. Why? I dont know, he is stinking.

Why would any Dundee fan want someone that refused us in January because he didnt want to play first division football. I hope he doesnt find a club and has to go junior or something, probably wont even get a game at that level.

Please Barry Smith, do NOT sign Darren Mackie.

Hardly the platform to come on to slag off players of other clubs in such a manner.
exile Posted - 12 May 2012 : 16:27:31
I'd be delighted if we signed Darren Mackie and he didn't turn us down for the reason you stated. He said, publicly and quite clearly, that he wanted to see out the season @ Aberdeen in the hope he might finally win something with the team he's supported all his life.
wirraldee Posted - 12 May 2012 : 15:52:43
I'm not a fan of Darren Mackie but I think the stinking remark is a bit strong - no pun intended.

Perhaps, if Mr Mackie's personal hygiene is an issue then maybe defenders will keep their distance and therefore we should sign him :)

Never quite understood why so many are against Part time players surely in our current situation if they are good enough, prepared to sign and are generally fit enough then what is the problem. Its not as if we can fill our squad to overflowing and this would be an option even if only to provide cover etc.

I am not against having part-time players, the lad Robertson from Lochee Utd two seasons ago did great for his 3 games, but that was exceptional circumstances, normalliy it is no use having one or two part-time players.

When do they train (would likely be at night)? Where do they train and by who? Would you be happy for a player to be trained at another club only to turn up at Dens on a Saturday to be told to play a different way? How do they fit into a team that trains during day, while the part time lads work in day jobs?

It may be different if 50% of team were part-time!

Dont see it as such a big problem,we're not talking about guys you'd build your team around being part-timers,just squad men.Gotta be better than trialists and short term loans.I work part-time and manage to keep myself to a higher than average level of fitness, without doing anything extreme and i'm pretty sure these guys could too.Pretty sure we've been beaten by a few part-time teams in the not too distant past aswell.

It's not an issue about fitness, it's about shape of team, tactics, team bonding etc.

You could be the fittest lad on earth, put them into a team and they don't know where they are playing, what team mates strengths and weaknesses are, where to make runs to etc. Thats much more important than simply being fit!

We've signed loads of guys over the last few seasons on the Friday before the game, with only a light session on the Saturday and they've fitted in ok.Players will go through an apprentiship so will know about tactics and how to play a position. If a couple of part-time squad players freed up cash to strenghthen elsewhere,i see no prob with that.Being part-time does'nt mean you only ever meet your full-time team mates on a Saturday you know.

Yes but that was the 1960's, you can't really compare that to today.

Although I agree that a couple of part-timers to supplement the squad would be a good idea.
