Posted - 04 May 2012 : 19:15:56 Does anyone think that there might be more than the 6 detailed leaving in the summer? The majority are out of contract and I wonder if some other club may come in for them? |

Posted - 04 May 2012 : 13:21:23 Well we were paying this last season and still paid the bills for the released players so believe that it is possible that 6 or so players may come in, to win this need we will need a viable squad.quote: Originally posted by reido15
I don't necessarily think it will mean 6 new players in. We are still paying the players wages from administration which clearly puts a strain on finances. I'd guess at 4 new faces - 2 centre halves, a midfielder and a striker. Think that will only changes on a one in, one out basis if one of the players offered a deal turns it down and leaves.

That depends on budget of course, but reading between the lines a few of the higher earners are moving on, so I would still say we need to retain our current squad size even with a reduced budget. I would also think some retained players may well be on reduced wages, market rate pay in 1st division wages is going down I would expect, much like the rest of the economy.
We still need a decent size squad, especially if we seem to have no young players coming through apart from Leighton. It would make all the difference if we had 3 or 4 good young players worthy of a place on the bench and the odd start but we have to live with the reality.
It will be interesting to see what squads the other clubs and Dunfermline have come August. |

Posted - 03 May 2012 : 09:56:37 Well, if we are able to operate on a similar budget to this season, for the coming season, that should then mean six new players in. Be very intersting to see who we bring in to replace both up front and central defence in particular. It may be that Barry already has players lined up, I guess that the speculation over this will be rife over the summer. No doubt that after the amazing run last year, that this year, the defence has badly let us down and its grinding out results that gets you out of this league. A return to a tight defence will make a differnce for a concerted push next season. Goals too were a let down this year and whither was a case of Barry being loyal to those that helped out last year, the strikers just haven't given us enough. So all if buts and maybe's now, but crucial times ahead! Fingers crossed that the right players and blend can be brought to the Club. Thanks to the players that did so much last year and helped keep the Club alive and the hope alive on the pitch, so thanks for the effort to Ryhs and Craig. |

On the other hand, the prospect of a new contract should be an incentive to the others.
Thanks and best wishes to the departing players. |

Posted - 01 May 2012 : 16:38:48 Perhaps it gives the players who are leaving a chance to say goodbye to the fans on Saturday. Back in the 1960's it was announced the day before the last game of the season which was at Dens that Joe Gilroy had been given a free transfer. The following day he gave his best display of the season. |

Posted - 01 May 2012 : 14:21:49 Have to echo the sentiments here although personally would have liked to see Weston stay. Wish all the released players the very best in their future careers and hope they find clubs soon. Special thanks to those who contributed to our Dee-fiant season last year, they will go down in dark blue history! |

Posted - 01 May 2012 : 13:23:50 Very disappointed to see Ryhs and Craig being released. They were both outstanding last season and although the defence has been criticised in the last few weeks, I believe we defend as a team and the defence has been exposed by the quality departures from midfield. |

Posted - 01 May 2012 : 10:15:13 The club would have to offer Benedictus terms to ensure we get compensation if he moves on, otherwise he could leave for free. |

Posted - 01 May 2012 : 09:58:47 A few more still to go, To let so many away, Barry,s plans for next season, must be well under way |

Posted - 01 May 2012 : 09:58:46 Agreed. Sorry to see them go, though their time was up, I suppose. McKeown and Weston have been great servants. |

Posted - 01 May 2012 : 08:50:33 I'm not surprised by any on the list and not sure if there are more to follow. Its a pity Weston couldnt replicate his fantastic displays of last season but it wasnt to be and I wish him and the others, especially the Deefiant ones, all the best in the future. |

Posted - 01 May 2012 : 00:18:06 Hopefully the rest of the first team players have decided to remain at Dens for another season. If not Barry is going to be looking for almost a new team. |
