Read on the Dundee Mad forum that Fozzy has signed.

Quite a few people have confirmed this on that post. Anyone here able to shed any light on it if they have heard anything?

I know there is nothing on the official site and i'll take it with a pinch of salt until it is on the site.

Exactly ddb,a quality player from this city what do some fans want!!We are just out of Admin.,this is a great signing by Barry anytime of year or position.

A belated welcome back to Dens Mark!
darkbloo Posted - 11 March 2012 : 10:12:05
At least Mark has some history of playing at a very decent level. You never can tell how a signing will work out but is certainly a skilful player and I'd take that over the run about daft with nothing at the end of it types!

Let's not forget that Mark was thrown into the Dundee first team as a 19-year old when we went into admin the first time. He scored a big equaliser at Livi in our first post-admin game, and was a stand-out in the emotional League Cup win over Hearts. Not to mention the fantastic derby win which went a long way to ensuring safety. This is a guy with deep Dark Blue history, who has already expressed his pleasure at being back. For goodness sake, let's welcome the guy, no matter how long he's here for!
iaincathro Posted - 09 March 2012 : 19:26:12
Always thought Fozzy was a player, but when we played Livvie I said early on he wouldn't finish and it proved to be the case. The guys got talent in abundance, like Steven Craig, but should have accomplished much, much more in the game given his ability.

lets be honest, Barry Smith, is probably the most up and coming Manager now, in scottish football, and has completed sterling stuff in the market place, and the football field
i would rather have the evergrowing experience of Barry as we sail into next season, and who knows with various pressures heaped on the league, and scottish football, a team and support of Dundees stature may get the call,( i can dream,)

You are right nothing is guaranteed in football. I don't think folk have given up i think what it is,is some folk are simply more realistic than others. It is unlikely we are going to catch Ross County. Have to say having watched RC it's unlikely they will lose so many points. So i don't think it's wrong to think of next season at this time.

No matter what happens i think this has been a great season for the Dee. Havent played that well at times but think we have certainly re-established ourselves as a force in Div 1. Considering the position we were in after admin, this is another feather in Barry's cap. Sorry a bit off the topic...

completely agree with everything in the above post. it's all true. have we been poor at times? yeah.. could we have done a little more at home? yeah... but barry's still just 18 months into his managerial career.. he's made a bright start, so there's plenty to be optimistic about
Sauchie Dee Posted - 08 March 2012 : 16:03:47
About 50 years ago at one stage we were 10 points ahead of Rangers then with only a few games left were 3pts behind (only 2 points for a win remember) and we still won the title by 3pts. Of course County dropping so many points in the run in is unlikely but you have to keep going. It's been said before --but football is a funny old game. ( Yeh I know 58 years supporting the 'Dee might have made for me being a tad unrealistic! But .....)!!
dundeemafia Posted - 08 March 2012 : 15:58:59
Can't agree with the doubters here. Fozzy has quality, no doubt, and a bit of steel about him too. Can't help but think his red card at Dens was borne out of frustration more than anything. At 27 he's got a fair bit of experience as well which can bode well for the run in.

As far as Ross Country are concerned they certainly don't look like they'll slip up but we've got to keep pushing them as the jitters could kick in. If we win all our games ( a huge ask I know) RC would require 20 points from 30 to win the championship, possibly 19 depending on GD. Seems a brezze but throw in 3 or 4 draws and you can see where it might get squeaky bum time.

Honest a "thread" riven with such negativity and unrealistic perceptions!

1, What IF 2nd place in the SFL suddenly becomes important?

2, What IF and it's a great lesser IF, Ross County hit the buffers?

3, What IF finishing strongly encourages additional investment over the close season?

The signing of Fotheringham and one hopes McBride will assist as has the loan signing of Finnigain to date!!!
upthedees Posted - 08 March 2012 : 13:29:17
cant believe how many people have giving up,still lots of points to play for and its good to hear the players wont give up until its mathematicaly impossible for them not to be caught.the fact ross county might fail to build a stadium and the chance that rangers may get demoted if they are put into liquadation is good motivation to keep going.good signing id say barry.
Bill Cairns Posted - 08 March 2012 : 12:40:10
Fair point Rev, but funnily enough the last time Mark was in the team we had a horrendous end to the season culminating in last day relegation at Livingston. If you remember 9 points clear of Dunfermline with 6 games left and we blew it, although I have to say I think leaving Fozzie on the bench that day was one of JD'S biggest mistakes, as it was a game crying out for him.

Nowt guaranteed in football as you will know Rev..............
Revdee Posted - 08 March 2012 : 11:15:57
Think it is always important to finish the season strongly. It shows potential signings that the club can complete and is likely to be pushing for promotion the following season. I feel a strong finish can persuade new signings to sign and persuade current players Barry wants to keep, to remain at the club. It also hopefully keeps the gates at a reasonable level (over 4000) for the rest of the season.
Not strengthening the team, introducing too many younger players and losing games will have the opposite effect.

By signing Fozzy and strengthening the team now, Barry IS building for next season.
Bill Cairns Posted - 08 March 2012 : 08:23:05
Don't get me wrong calif, I like Mark Fotheringham as a player, and I even like the devil streak in him, I think players with his skill playing in his position need that as long as they can keep the lid on it most of the time.

But would it not have been better to give the youngsters the chance to play rather than learn from watching somebody in training. There's no substitute for playing, it's the only real way to get experience.

If you look at Kevin MacDonald he looked a bit green when he first got into the team, but played through it with a sprinkling of rested periods in between, then he quickly became really good, then left too soon to go big time before his education was complete.

Point being he got his chance as did two or three others did at the same time and they took it.

I repeat Mark Fotheringham is my type of player and I hope the scenario is he is signing now with the follow on contract for next season, otherwise it's a non signing in my opinion.

Zico McGeachie Posted - 08 March 2012 : 00:51:29
I am puzzled by this signing. The league has gone, so we should now be focussing on next season. If we got Fozzy on an 18 month contract, then we could have started building for next season. Instead he will more than likely be offski in the summer, and we will be scrambling around looking for a replacement. I fear another Gain Rae scenario!

I'm with you on that one 1893, seems an odd time to make a move like that, there's always second place to play for I suppose and that might get us a wee bit more dosh for league placing,

Who knows, the way things are going, second spot may get an added bonus????

califhaggis Posted - 07 March 2012 : 22:18:02
Some people are never happy. We all agree we need experienced players to bolster our real tight squad especially mid-field since Rae left. Our manager who does not have any cash gets someone to fill this role and as next years budget has not been finalized yet we cannot give out contracts. Who cares if it is only for this season his playing gives the youngsters someone else to learn from and helps the squad.
Bill Cairns Posted - 07 March 2012 : 21:25:07
Going by previous scenarios Spike, that's highly unlikely, as self preservation usually kicks in and the bottom club is given a reprieve.
The only thing in our favour would be..........well, nothing !
